Canada's Blue Jays Earn World Series Meeting Versus defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer contributed to the Houston Astros winning the World Series in the 2017 season.

The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their maiden Fall Classic following 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.

Down three runs to one, the star outfielder smashed a three-run blast in the seventh, guiding the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series win in the series. They will now face the Dodgers, who are the defending champions, in the upcoming World Series.

"It's incredible for everyone here, our city, the nation," said Springer, a star of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 championship. "What an unbelievable moment."

The veteran has now connected for 23 total post-season home runs, ranking him third all-time behind Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).

"There's probably not another player anywhere that I'd choose in that moment other than Springer with his post-season brilliance," said manager John Schneider.

Seattle's team, despite leading the early in the series, are still the one club yet to make an appearance in a championship series.

Wilson said "without a doubt that it's going to sting" in the wake of his side's defeat at their home ballpark, but commended their efforts throughout the year.

"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we had to come out on the wrong side of the series," he remarked.

Toronto's team won the championship on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Dodgers in the opener on this Friday.
