Fall Classic Game 7 Captures Over 50 Million Viewers In the US, Canada and Japanese Regions.

The nail-biting extra-inning matchup that saw the Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a total over 50 million watchers in the United States, Canada, and Japanese territories. MLB announced this is the highest-rated World Series finale after the 1991 edition contest between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Breakdown

The Saturday epic contest drew over 27 million audience members on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It additionally is the most-watched Fall Classic game after the 2017 final game involving the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase over the previous finale between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked 4th, Game 4 was 7th, the fifth game came in 8th, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth place.

International Viewership Figures

In Canada, the game drew 11.6 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the most-watched English program in Canada since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – averaged 13.1M viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a single network in Japan.

Overall Averages and Trends

The entire seven-match series recorded 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen audience growth for two consecutive seasons.

Including the opening game telecast on Univision, the total American viewership reached over 16 million. The total World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels recorded over 8 million watchers, an 8% increase over last year and the network’s strongest playoff performance after 2017.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 different tongues.
