Former Physician Accused of Assault Charges Involving 38 Patients

Legal authorities have announced that a former doctor stands accused of performing sexual assaults against thirty-eight victims who were patients.

Details of the Serious Allegations

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of dozens of sexual offences – comprising acts against children younger than 13 – spanning the period from 2017 and 2021.

One deputy chief CPS official said, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to support a detailed and complex investigation, meticulously examining the available evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

Scope of the Police Inquiry

The charges follow what police called a “detailed inquiry” into reported sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.

The defendant is due to appear at the local magistrates' court on January 20th.

Breakdown of Offences

Prosecutors said the 45 sexual offences include:

  • 15 counts of assault.
  • Seventeen counts of assault by penetration.
  • Nine counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • Three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • One count of attempting to assault by penetration.
