Jair Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities determined he posed a concrete flight risk while under home confinement.

The former head of state was sentenced of plotting a military coup in the ninth month and handed more than over two decades in jail, but he continued under house arrest pending appeals.

Top Judicial Official Justice Moraes said the move to detain the septuagenarian politician was a precautionary step after recent developments came to light.

This included seeking to disable his electronic bracelet and a call for a supporters' gathering that could facilitate a chance to flee".

Judicial Records Show Escape Concerns

In a paperwork permitting the custody, the judge said intelligence from the facility tracking the former president's confinement suggested the one-time head of state's aim to disable the tracking monitor to ensure success in his getaway".
