Los Angeles Faces Record-Breaking High Temperatures Only One Week After Major Winter Weather.
Following a week of torrential rains that led to inundation across parts of the city, Los Angeles is now confronting abnormally hot weather for the end of February.
Record-Shattering Heat
By Friday afternoon, the mercury reached 33 degrees Celsius (91 Fahrenheit) in the city center, as reported by meteorologists. This easily surpasses the old record for February 27th, which was eighty-eight degrees Fahrenheit and was set in 2025.
"Unusually high temperatures" were highlighted on official charts for the region.
Safety Alerts
The weather service stated that Friday's weather posed an "higher threat for heat illness" for those at risk. Their recommendations suggested:
- Keeping well-hydrated.
- Avoiding outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
- Ensuring you do not leave kids or animals unattended in a parked vehicle.
An Extreme Reversal
This sharp rise in mercury follows closely after a massive storm system that struck the state recently. That system unleashed heavy snow, strong winds, and thunderstorms to mountainous regions, causing flash flood warnings for many residents.
Unfortunately, the conditions also triggered a massive avalanche in the Tahoe area, which resulted in nine fatalities.
Weekend Outlook
The outlook suggests a cooldown is coming. Readings were expected to drop to around 16 degrees Celsius (61 Fahrenheit) in downtown LA by Friday night.
Several cities that reached ninety degrees included Burbank, Woodland Hills, and Long Beach. Additionally, Oxnard, Westwood, Camarillo, and Santa Maria were expected to see the high eighties.
In the coming days, central Los Angeles can expect temperatures in the 80s, with a further cooldown likely for the start of March.
