Nigel Farage Claims Teachers of ‘Indoctrinating Children’ on Race Issues
The political figure stated that teachers would go on strike within weeks a Reform UK election victory, charging that they are “poisoning our kids” by telling students that black pupils are victims and Caucasian students are perpetrators.
At a gathering for a Michigan-based religious institution, Farage outlined his perspective on British schools, claiming that the “radical left-wing” had “now in control of our education system”.
“I’m anticipating a teachers’ strike very quickly after winning the next general election,” he remarked during a Q&A session.
“They are corrupting young minds. They are telling them to feel guilt about their nation. They are telling little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is a victim and a white child of the same age that he is an oppressor. They create division, instead of fostering unity. They promote this harmful mindset.”
Reacting to Farage’s claims, Daniel Kebede dismissed the idea that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “nonsense”. Kebede noted that industrial action must relate to educators’ working conditions, and doubted whether Reform would attack these right after taking office.
“Farage has built his public life on coded rhetoric and currently, like Trump, he is lining up teachers and their unions for a conflict,” Kebede stated.
“This is highly reckless. Neither I nor our union – advocate such divisive theories as he claims … Should he become prime minister he would undermine state services, particularly schooling … and the outcome would be catastrophic for students and learning.”
Reform, which is leading the polls by a significant margin, has not set out much detail on a proposed education policy and does not appear to have appointed an education spokesperson.
However, Farage’s remarks indicated the group would reform the system and the curriculum. Farage declared: “We have got a massive job with education – absolutely herculean. Moreover, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it requires years, years to turn this around.”
Farage expressed that younger generations are receptive to analytical thought, but older youth were “completely lost”.
Paying tribute to a conservative activist, Farage said: “My goal for schooling is to teach critical thinking – to educate individuals that multiple perspectives exist and they should decide for themselves rather than current practices where one is virtuous and one is evil. This is a huge undertaking in both Britain and America.”
The party has conflicted with the UK’s largest teaching union, after Kebede called the party “far right and racist” and dismissed Farage as “a cheap imitation”.
Farage has accused the union head with being “an avowed radical” … someone who is absolutely determined that young minds be corrupted at school, their minds should be poisoned regarding national issues” and maintained that the organization seeks to brainwash teenagers against Reform.
Roughly a million individuals work in schools in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The major education union has hundreds of thousands of members.
Countrywide walkouts over educators’ salaries and work environment in recent years caused widespread disruption in educational institutions and millions of days of lost learning for children.
At the US event, Farage also pledged to help spread the online educational material of the Christian college in the UK. He said such groups were “part of the fightback”, noting: “I am serious. I will help attract vast numbers of youth to your online courses. I make that commitment tonight and I’ll do that.”
The college, a small private Christian college, offers free courses. Its website states: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is vital for well-being and to perpetuate the blessings of civil and religious liberty. The college furnishes these excellent programs for no charge to every interested learner.”
