Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot conceded that it was natural for questions to be raised about his position after a further convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in twelve matches, marking the club's worst streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a tough night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received a lot of support from the top,” the coach remarked.
“It's important to reverse this trend and earn three points naturally but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it's typical that people question you.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach said:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard exchanges I sense the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Problems and Squad Reaction
Slot lamented recurring shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones said.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a phase of this nature with performances so bad.”
He finished, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is taken away, we'll continue to compete.”
“We’re going to try to help the side back to the top, prove once more the values of this club and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it needs to change.”
