Iran is ready to reinitiate atomic negotiations with the United States on condition that it is approached with "dignity" and "honor", Iran's top diplomat has announced.

The Iranian diplomat stated exclusively dialogue was effective, and shared new appeals had been made by mediators to restart discussions with the American leadership. He claimed Iran did not have undeclared nuclear sites, and Iran was not yet able to allow the UN nuclear inspectorate to access attacked atomic facilities for security reasons.

Walking a Complex Course

The foreign minister is navigating a challenging course since Iran aims to avoid be seen to be proceeding from a situation of vulnerability, and he emphatically stated that Iran had emerged more powerful in military terms and psychologically from the joint assault on its nuclear sites in June.

He was talking at a security conference in Tehran where he restated that Iran had "an absolute privilege to enrich uranium within its borders that it will always maintain" – the key factor of the stalemate in the previous talks.

Previous Talks Unexpectedly Ended

The earlier sessions of negotiations between the US and Iran were brought to an abrupt and bitter termination on 12 June when Israel, with Washington's assistance, targeted Tehran's atomic facilities in a fortnight-long engagement that ended with Donald Trump declaring the locations had been obliterated. Following this, Western states employed their privilege to restore global restrictions, but Iran maintains they have not had a substantial consequence.

Magic Solution Suggested

Tehran representatives said they felt they had achieved a "magic solution" to the nuclear fuel concern in prior discussions, when it was agreed an local partnership with American involvement could process nuclear material. Each party would have been able to declare success since home-based processing would have continued and the US could be confident that Iran's nuclear programme was entirely non-military.

It had not been agreed in the talks that Washington's technical specialists could work on Iranian soil, but that was a reasonable assumption of the partnership suggestion. Officials asserted repeatedly they had secured an understanding with Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff only for the arrangement to disintegrate due to "spoilers in Washington".

Existing Status

Tehran representatives declared the cooperative arrangement was now off the table, but it seems highly likely the proposal could be reintroduced in various formats if discussions restart.

The American leader recently stated he had been getting signals that Iran desired to restart talks, but privately Iran's diplomats claim they are not yet getting clear proposals from Washington either explicitly or from significant local go-betweens, such as Qatar, the Egyptian leadership, the Omani authorities and Saudi Arabia. The Iranian foreign ministry has been accused of inactivity in the aftermath of the US president's straightforward manner, but Tehran asserts dialogue is not part of a show.
