The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Reveals He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... Currently.

The creative mastermind could not have predicted that the Apple TV+ show would become a breakout success. “The viewers have been incredible,” he remarks. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

As the debut season of the hit sci-fi show coming to an end—and a second season officially in the works—the creative team recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will influence the future direction of Pluribus.

Regarding the Incredible Audience Reaction

It would be easy to get swayed by the rampant praise and online debates regarding Pluribus. He is doing his best to ignore the noise.

“It feels like force fed your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he describes. “It's the greatest thing, but I hear about it anecdotally, and that's by design. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We make no attempt to tailor anything,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not influenced by audience chatter.”

“It's wiser to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan adds.

The Big Question: Has the creator See the Ending of Pluribus?

Given that the creative staff aren't taking cues by audience theories, can we assume they have already decided how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… with some caveats.

“There are some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” he states. “yet we stand ready to abandon a good idea for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Alternatively, if they hit a wall, director and writer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.

“My recurring proposal is that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” he says humorously, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Of course, why mess with the classics?

“My dream is Carol to wake up in bed beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV.
