Vince Zampella, who helped create the immensely successful first-person shooter Call of Duty, has passed away in a car accident in California at the age of 55.

The tragic news was verified by Electronic Arts, which owns Respawn Entertainment, the video game company he co-founded.

The renowned industry figure passed away following his automobile collided and was engulfed in flames on a motorway in LA on Sunday, US media outlets report.

"We are facing a devastating loss, and our deepest sympathies go to Vince's loved ones, those closest to him, and everyone impacted by his creative vision," an official with Electronic Arts commented.
