The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Intense Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but features several key changes:
- Every squad includes just eight human participants, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities done by human gamers grant full XP, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
- Just a pair of locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its name: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it provides additional choices for players looking for different methods to have fun with the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many BF6 fans are mad.
Community Responses: From Fury to Support
"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," while another details all the issues they believe to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who have lives and don't play this game 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds a different comment. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Criticisms and Player Input
All that said, there are constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it will make queue times more extended for other modes due to the large amount of playlists in the game already. Similarly, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the player base meeting them in the middle, as per forum feedback. Another labels this addition as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?
If the development team has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to player input. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
