The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Chose the Wrong Popular RPG Show Song
This latest animated series, the most recent animated adventure by Critical Role, revealed a new opening credits. It features our favorite cast of misfits, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and taking names, while also hinting at several agonizing backstories for key figures such as the voice actor's mage Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, the character Fjord.
All in all, the intro appears amazing. However, I felt that something was missing in the music selection.
The intro uses "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song composed by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece originating from the official score of the same name, the second release released by the production company's music division their music brand. It's a great nostalgic choice, and I believe that fans of the second campaign will love its inclusion.
Personally, The series' opening doesn't quite capture the hype and energy that accompanied the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by musician the artist, was an instant classic in my view when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when co-founder Sam Riegel wrote words to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.
Including singing from Ashley Johnson, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the song was memorable and fun. At the time, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series at that point, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. This track that excites you before you start an installment of fantasy hijinks.
The show's intro with "the new song" fails to hit the right notes in my opinion. It's a grand composition, but based on my understanding of the group, I can't help but feel that its tone is a little off.
Naturally, Critical Role has stated that the series will have a few surprises and variations from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its intro seems to be among these.
The Mighty Nein will be released on the streaming service from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or wish to prepare to get to know the characters of the second series, the actual play are available on Spotify and the video site.
