Citizens have come together around the country to remember the second anniversary since the Hamas-conducted offensive on that fateful day in October 2023, as discussions proceeded in Egypt over a resolution to the hostilities in Gaza.

The incident resulted in over 1,200 people killed and 251 others captured back to Gaza as hostages. It was the most most lethal day for Jews since the Holocaust.

Israel answered by initiating a defensive operation in Gaza which has taken more than 67,000 people, as reported by the territory's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its numbers are considered trustworthy by the United Nations and other international bodies.

"The bloodthirsty adversaries have struck forcefully, but they have not broken us," the leader stated on that day.

He also promised to "realize all the objectives of the war: the homecoming of all the captured, the destruction of the Hamas regime and the guarantee that Gaza will never again create a danger to Israel".

Commemorative Gatherings Across Israel

The Israeli government delayed official remembrance events until October 16th - after the end of the Jewish High Holiday season - but events still took place across the country on that day.

A memorial ceremony for the loved ones of Israelis who lost their lives in the Hamas incident was held in Tel Aviv. Organized by the victims' relatives, it was broadcast across Israeli TV networks.

Some time earlier, a silent tribute was held around the country.

Negotiation Talks in Egypt

At the same time, both sides' negotiating teams gathered in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh for a second day of indirect talks to discuss the provisions of the proposal.

A prominent delegate knowledgeable about the talks revealed that an evening round of negotiations started at 19:00 Cairo time.

The official stated the day's discussions ended without significant progress, due to disagreements over the proposed Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas seeks to ensure Israel does not recommence hostilities after the opening period of the deal.

He commented that the negotiations are "difficult and have yet to achieve any significant progress," but mentioned that facilitators are striving to narrow the differences between the both parties.

Key Issues in Discussions

  • A permanent ceasefire
  • The swap of the captives still held by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of military personnel from Gaza
  • Arrangements for humanitarian aid distribution
  • Post-war administration of the territory

Public Feeling

In the city's Hostages Square that day, 29-year-old Hagar - whose family member survived the assault on the Nova music festival, where hundreds were lost their lives and many more were taken hostage by Hamas gunmen - told: "No place seems like home any longer and until every captive come back none of us will be secure."

"Once we see everybody home again, we can relax again. Then we can start to heal," she concluded.

In front of the prime minister's residence in the capital, people congregated to show their support for the families of the abducted. Israel reports forty-eight continue in confinement in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are believed to be alive.

Protester one woman stated: "It's necessary do every compromise required for the hostages to come back home. But we truly desire guarantees that we will be protected."

Opinion polls now regularly indicate that around 70% of the population prefer the conflict to conclude in exchange for the freedom of the abducted.

Gaza Situation

At the site of Nova festival, those paying respects assembled to pay their respects.

From there, the sound of Israeli air strikes and shelling could be heard just a brief space away in Gaza, where witnesses reported the heavy Israeli attacks continued.

In Gaza City, bombardments were documented in the dawn of Tuesday in the western Tal al-Hawa, Rimal and Nasr neighbourhoods and in the eastern neighbourhood of Sheikh Radwan, as well Shati refugee camp to the northwestern area.

"Once the night falls, the anxiety arrives with it," displaced urban resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose 17-year-old son was died by an Israeli air strike previously, described.

"My family are terrified of the air strikes. During nighttime we are resting together, holding each other, notably my little child who rests his head on me throughout the night."

"Every second we check the updates to see developments. And I'm afraid that this truce will not be finalized and that the war will return to us."

Health Crisis

The healthcare center in Gaza City announced it had accepted the corpses of several people by the daytime, including three killed in an Israeli bombing in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Nasser hospital in the south region of that area said two more fatalities had been delivered. An individual was died by Israeli soldiers while attempting to get help to the south, health workers said.

The region's health ministry announced a significant number of the {territ
