Triple Most Valuable Player Jokic suffers a 'heartbreaking' injury to his knee.
Three-time National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Jokic suffered a "devastating" knee injury as the Denver Nuggets were defeated by a score of 147-123 to the Miami Heat.
The star player injured himself in the latter stages of the opening half during an inadvertent collision with team-mate Spencer Jones.
The other player stepped on the footwear of Jokic, and he immediately fell to the floor clutching his leg.
The veteran player, that leads the league this season in boards and dimes, posted a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the game before sustaining the injury.
The player will have an MRI scan on the following day to determine the seriousness of the injury.
"Immediately, Jokic knew something was wrong," stated Nuggets head coach David Adelman.
"Injuries are part of the game. Any player that suffers an injury, it's gut-wrenching, especially somebody as important as he is. We'll find out more on Tuesday."
"We'll move on together. Obviously, currently, I'm more worried about Jokic as a person and the frustration of facing a situation of that nature."
